SAINT LOUIS, Missouri. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team traveled to Missouri Baptist University this afternoon for their only doubleheader of the week. The Pomeroys defeated the Spartans in game one 5-4 and fell in game two 2-1.
GAME ONE | VS. MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY | WON 5-4
Despite seeing its five-run lead diminshed, SMWC held off Missouri Baptist University 5-4. Missouri Baptist University scored its runs on a grand slam by Meagan Edler. SMWC started their scoring in the first inning when Kelsey Young doubled on a 0-1 count to score two runs. Taylor Andrew was the games winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed seven hits, and struck out five batters. Baleigh Koester sustained the loss for MBU. Overall, the Pomeroys racked up seven hits. Hollie Jones, Baylee Waters, and Kelsey Young, each had multiple hits for the Woods.
GAME TWO | VS. MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY | LOST 2-1
Both teams were strong on the mound, but Missouri Baptist University was just a little bit stronger at the plate. SMWC scored first as Baylee Waters singled on a 0-1 count which scored one-run. MBU evened the game in the bottom of the second inning when Ally Dunaway scored a run. Baptist pulled away when they tallied one more run in the third inning. Christian Chambers took the loss for the Pomeroys. She allowed six hits, two runs, and struck out two batters. Hollie Jones led the team with two hits in three at-bats.
The Woods softball team will be back in action Monday, March 26th, at 3:30 p.m. The Pomeroys will host Huntington College at the SMWC SOftball field.
