Pomeroys Sweep the Bearcats
OWENSBORO, Ky.  The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods  College softball team was back in action tonight after a two-week delay due to the spring weather. The Pomeroys faced Brescia University and came out victorious in both games.

SMWC handled the Bearcats in game one as they won big 8-1. The Pomeroys started their scoring after Kelly Combs earned an RBI in the first inning. SMWC tacked on three more runs in the second inning as Christian Chambers hit a dinger and Kinda Gingerich singled, each moved runners across the plate. Kerri Schrock hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. Taylor Andrew was the winning pitcher for the Woods. She threw all seven innings and allowed just one run. She struck out seven batters and allowed five hits. Shelby Franklin took the loss for the Bearcats. On the evening, SMWC knocked out two home runs as Christian Chambers hit her first of the season! While Kerri Schrock cleared the fence for the third time this year. Baylee Waters, Chambers, Hollie Jones, Combs, Gingerich, Schrock, and Andrew each finish with one hit.

SMWC run-ruled the Bearcats 15-4 to earn their 13th win of the year. The contest was tied at four with the Pomeroys up-to-bat in the top of the fourth inning when Kinda Gingerich tripled on a 1-1 count which scored one run. Despite allowing Brescia to post three runs in the first inning, the Woods secured the win in fashion. Gingerich drove in one run in the first inning to start the game for the Pomeroys. In the top of the fifth, SMWC notched nine runs. Christian Chambers, Malerie Higginbotham, Gingerich, Baylee Waters, Nicole Niespodziany, and Kelly Combs all contributed to the huge inning with RBI's. In the circle, Chambers earned the victory. She struck out two batters and gave up just four hits. The Woods tallied 10 hits as Gingerich, Hollie Jones, and Waters each earned multiple hits.

The Woods softball team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 11th, against Robert Morris University-Springfield. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST.
