CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team opened up the new year on the road against Illinois Institute of Technology. The Pomeroys defeated the Scarlet Hawks 90-58 and captured their fifth win of the season!
In the first quarter, the Pomeroys knocked down five shots from beyond the arc while each three-point basket came from a different player. The SMWC defensive presser caused IIT to commit 11 turnovers in 10 minutes of play. By the end of the first, the Woods had collected a 28-16 lead. In the second quarter, the Pomeroys maintained their dominance and nearly tripled the Scarlet Hawks offensively. The Pomeroys Maggie Reimer scored 10 of the teams 26 points after going 4-4 from the field while tacking on a pair of free throws. At the half, SMWC led 54-26. Illinois Tech failed to seize the SMWC offensive attack and trailed 31 points headed into the final quarter. The Woods finished out the contest outscoring the Scarlet Hawks in each of the four quarters. SMWC captured the victory 90-58.
