WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Women's Soccer) -- Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer head coach Michael Aycock are proud to announce the signing of Shelby Joy to the 2018-19 signing class.

"Shelby brings a ton of athleticism and some real technical ability to our team. She has challenged herself to play in good travel competition, and that shows," commented Aycock. "I believe she will be able to step straight into our team and make a difference. We are very fortunate to have her."

Joy, a native of West Terre Haute, will walk across the stage as a graduate of West Vigo High School this spring. She played soccer and ran track for WVHS. As a Viking, Shelby has been a team captain (soccer) for three years, earned four letters in soccer, named WIC All-Conference for four years, and hold school records for most goals in a season, most goals and assists in a career. Joy also competes on the Terre Haute Flyers Travel team and was chosen for the Indiana Soccer League All-Division team in 2017 (honorary).  In the classroom, she is in the top 10 of her class and has maintained high honor roll status. She has also earned academic letters and honors for four years. Off the playing field, she is a member of the WVHS Orchestra, LINKS Crew, and the National Honor Society.

"I am grateful to Coach Aycock for giving me the opportunity to play college soccer and earn a quality education at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College," said Joy. "I am thankful for Coach Lanham, Nathan and Andrew Kump's guidance throughout my high school career. I would like to thank Mark Unger, my original Vigo County Youth Soccer Association (VCYSA) coach, who helped me fall in love with the game!"

Shelby intends to major in an area dealing with a pre-professional program. She is the daughter of Amy and Terry Joy and has one sibling, Tyler.
