SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Volleyball) – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team returned home for a midweek matchup on Wednesday night against #10 (NAIA) Missouri Baptist University. The Pomeroys fought valiantly but fell to the Spartans in three sets with scores of 25-7, 25-14, and 25-22.
With the loss, SMWC moves to 8-11 while MBU improves to 21-5.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College was led by Monica Mack with eight kills. She was followed by Gabriella Slagle with five kills. The assist leader was Katelyn Cotter with 16. Pamela Dorman, Madeline Howes, and Mary Alvanos each accounted for six digs.
SMWC finished the night with 18 kills, 17 assists, and 31 digs.
The Spartans were led by Caterina Cigarini and Marion Couraud with seven kills each. They were followed by Maggie Sorensen, Kristina Medanovic, and Kelly Wilson with six kills each. Rachel Poole led the team in assists with 21 while Ana Oliviera finished with 12. Defensively, Couraud recorded 11 digs and Mary Grace Masters contributed 10.
Missouri Baptist ended the match with 43 kills, 39 assists, and 54 digs.
The Pomeroys will travel to Earlham College on Monday, Oct. 16 for an early week match. Match start time is set for 7 p.m.
