USCAA National Championships Preview

UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- The SMWC women's basketball team is heading to the USCAA National Championships for the fifth time in program history. The Pomeroys will have their work cut out for them as they take on #1 seed Paul Quinn College in the opening round.

The Paul Quinn Tigers assemble a 21-9 record on the season and have won their last two contests (University of the Southwest, Langston University). PQ scores on average 72.4 PTS/G and shoots the ball 39.1% on the season. At the free throw line, they shoot 61.5% while they average 45.4 REB/G, and 13.1 AST/G. Offensively, they are led by junior guard, #24, Te'Ana Washington, who averages 10.1 PTS/G, 4.7 REB/G, 2.5 AST/G, and 1.5 STL/G. Defensively, the Tigers allow 65.7 PTS/G and force 9.9 STL/G.


Because the USCAA National Tournament is a two-game gurantee. Win or lose, the Pomeroys will play at least two totes in Uniontown, PA.

Here are the scenarios:

Win | If the Pomeroys beat Paul Quinn College they will play again on Friday, March 2nd at 11:00 a.m. EST. SMWC would face the winner of #4 Dean College and #5 Silver Lake College.

Lose | If the Pomeroys lose to Paul Quinn College they will play on Thursday, March 1st at 9:15 a.m. EST. SMWC would face the loser of #4 Dean College and #5 Silver Lake College in a consolation game.


Fans wishing to make the trip to Uniontown, PA. can purchase tickets through the USCAA box office. All seating for the Championships is General Admission. Day passes include entry into both gymnasiums for any one day. Tournament passes provide access to both gymnasiums for all days of the tournament. Tickets are non-refundable while entry to Tuesday's skills competition 12:00 p.m. is free of charge.
